The Clients: Somatic Behavioral Coaching is inclusive to a wide range of neurodivergent adolescents and young adults. This work is meant for any and all types of brains, bodies and behaviors in any states and with or without any abilities, whether they’re dependent on family, caregivers, social services or are independent. This includes clients with big feelings and behaviors, such as lashing out and violence. There are not any specific communication skills (such as speaking, reading, writing, etc.) needed to work with Elizabeth; she is able to meet clients where they’re at as long as they’re open and willing!
The Caregivers: Caregivers are an integral part of this work. Whether you’re a new or established caregiver, somatic behavioral coaching can help both the client and caregiver develop a deeper understanding of the integration between brain, body and behavior. The caregiver’s role is to provide valuable insight and context surrounding clients so that Elizabeth can tailor her approach to their unique needs. The role of the caregiver can be capacity-driven, meaning that there are no rigid expectations and that it is not necessary for caregivers to be present at all times, but as their capacity allows. While engaging in this work as a caregiver may feel like an additional load to carry, the goal of this work is for each party to gain their independence, a process Elizabeth refers to as “untangling.” If you feel a little stuck on how to effectively work with your child or dependent, or are unsure of how to set them up for success as an independent individual, somatic behavioral coaching is for you!
